Your job in a nutshell

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will perform clinical laboratory tests in the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases in a CLIA/CAP certified environment and prepare reports for review and approval according to established procedures. The CLS will aid in writing technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), perform phase-in of new reagent lots, tests quality control samples, and performs quality control metrics. The CLS will help in performing and validating new equipment (IQ, OQ, PQ) and test methods under the direction of the Technical Supervisor.

Together we ensure the validation and implementation of clinically relevant scientific discoveries into reliable medical diagnostic assays for diagnosis, prognosis and drug effectiveness prediction that will ultimately contribute to improved patient care. 

 

You have

  • a minimum of four years of experience performing testing of patient samples and related duties in a CLIA-regulated laboratory post certification, post-graduation (required).

  • a relevant molecular skill set consisting of the molecular fundamentals, RNA and DNA extraction, PCR, reverse transcription, and gel electrophoresis (required).

  • a current California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist CLS Generalist/CGMBS required

  • 2-3 years of experience in a molecular laboratory (required).

  • demonstrated ability to explain experience with specific instrument platforms, including test principle(s), what controls were in place, and how results were interpreted and reported out (required).

  • the ability to work beyond standard business hours when needed (required).

  • the ability to perform simple to complex assays such as RNA-DNA isolation, PCR, reverse transcription, microarray hybridization, real-time PCR and DNA sequencing by following the established protocols.

  • the ability to train to all SOPs related to the job function and adhere to all rules and protocols.

  • the ability to read and record critical assay dependent measurements.

  • the ability to perform analysis accurately on a daily basis for the discipline assigned to CLS.

  • the ability to prepare clinical specimens for testing and identify specimen related problems.

  • the ability to perform QC for reagents and chemicals and phase in of new lots and by using the SOPs.

  • the ability to review and approve Quality Control results.

  • the ability to document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specification.

  • the ability to assists in preparation of validation documentation of new tests and procedures as required.

  • the ability to maintain laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as perform cleaning or scheduling of equipment and instrument maintenance / calibration verification / certification, and documentation in logs or forms, as required. 

  • the willingness to accept other duties as assigned by laboratory management.

  • demonstrated ability to work independently, take and follow direction and to know who the resources are for direction with the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

  • the ability to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of personal information according to HIPPA guidelines

  • the ability to consistently and independently perform the most complex level of clinical tests.

  • the ability to effectively resolve common problems or able to check with group leaders when it is uncertain.

  • the ability to recognize and take appropriate action in response to critical values or unusual or unexpected results, and document action taken.
